A 60-year-old Loma woman, charged with embezzling more than $300,000 from the Lower Valley Fire Protection District is free on bond.
Barbara Cowley is charged with felony theft. On Thursday morning, she turned herself in and was released on a $10,000 bond.
Cowley worked for the district for years. She resigned in May 2006.
If convicted, Cowley could face up to 12 years in prison.
