A man is in Saint Mary’s Hospital this morning after a train slammed into his truck yesterday. It happened on private property at the United Company's gravel pit in Hotchkiss.
A loaded dump truck was crossing the track just before 5 p.m. when an empty coal train struck the passenger side and overturned it.
The unposted, private rail road crossing doesn't have a standard crossing bar with flashing lights.
Colorado State Patrol says the driver of the truck was pinned inside and rescued from EMS and Hotchkiss Fire crews, and flown to Saint Mary’s by AirLife.
Troopers are not releasing the driver's name or condition.
