Late last night Grand Junction law enforcement officers paid tribute to one of their own.
The body of Sergeant Jason Lhotka was taken to Martin Mortuary Wednesday night escorted by fellow Grand Junction Law Enforcers.
Lhotka passed away last Thursday while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania Africa.
In memory of Sergeant Lhotka a family memorial fund has been set up at the Grand Junction Federal Credit Union on Main Street.
His funeral service will be Saturday morning at Canyon View Vineyard.
Officials believe a pulmonary embolism killed the 37 year old. Sergeant Lhotka is survived by his wife Elena and their young son Nicholas.
Lhotka was hired by the Sheriff's Office in 1997 after graduating from Mesa State College. He wore many hats in the organization, from serving on the SWAT team to the street crimes Overlap Unit.
Sheriff Stan Hilkey says he was an amazing man who will truly be missed.
