The Custer County coroner has confirmed that 15 year old Courtney Curtis of Cotopaxi was killed Saturday during a homecoming parade.

People in small southern town of Westcliffe have spent the weekend mourning her loss.

The Custer County Sheriff says Curtis was trying to get onto a parade float when she slipped and fell under the front tires of an 18-wheel trailer.

Curtis was rushed to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, but her injuries were too severe.

Classes at the high school are cancelled for Monday, but grief counselors will be on hand.
