Officials in Mesa County decided it was time to hold a town meeting where anyone was welcome to attend and discuss the issue of child abuse in the county.

In 2006, five children in Mesa County died as a result of abuse or neglect. So far in 2007, one more little boy has died.

On average 200 referrals of child abuse or neglect are assessed each month in Mesa County to ensure the safety of our youth.

Officials say it's up to everyone in the community to get educated and become more aware of a growing problem and take action to eliminate it.
