A 22-year old girl from Fruita is asking for community help to raise money in order to have stem cell therapy at the Institute for Cellular Medicine in Costa Rica.

Jordanne Menzies is quadriplegic. She was in a car accident a few years ago that left her with brain injury and her neck broken in three places. Doctors said she would never be able to breath on her own or ever walk again. Within two months, Jordanne was off the ventilator breathing all on her own.

Before the accident, Jordanne was an aspiring model who was very close to living her dream. Now she attends Mesa State College, where she is studying to be a preschool teacher.

Jordanne has put in her time researching stem cell therapy and knows there may not be much of a change after receiving treatments, but says even if she gets one arms movement back it will be a miracle.

The cost for her to get to Costa Rica and to receive treatments is about $30,000.00. She is asking the community to help her have the chance to walk again. Anyone interested in donated money can go to the Grand Junction Federal Credit Union at 9th and Main. There she has a fund set up under her name.

November 3, Jordanne will be at Canine Carwash where people can come get their car washed. The money will go towards getting her to Costa Rica.

Over the next few weeks other fundraising events will take place. Stayed tuned to 11 news at 5:30 and 10:00 or right here on our Webchannel for the latest events.

All fundraising and donations must be done before the new year. Jordanne is set to travel for the therapy January 5, 2008.
