Police believe they have found the body of a missing Fort Carson soldier in a reservoir. Twenty-nine-year-old Shawn Michael Stoddard has been missing since late October.
A search team, including police and Stoddard's family, found the body around 11 a.m. Saturday in the Springs Run Reservoir off Lake Avenue and Spring Meadow Road. Saturday's search follows a similar one the day before in which nothing was found.
The Stoddard family discovered the body while circling the reservoir in a rented helicopter. The Colorado Springs Fire Department dive team removed the body from the water.
Stoddard's car was found in the parking lot of the bank at the Broadmoor on October 30. Witnesses say it was there for several days. There is no indication of foul play.
An autopsy will be conducted on Monday to determine the identity of the body and the cause of death.
