According to the New York Times, Pharmaceutical firm Merck has agreed to pay nearly 5 billion dollars to settle a class action lawsuit over its drug Vioxx.
The deal will settle 27,000 lawsuits brought against the drug maker.
Plaintiffs claim they or their family members were hurt or killed by the pain killer. The agreement still needs to be approved.
A government investigation that includes civil and criminal penalties will continue.
Merck pulled Vioxx from the market in 2004.
