The grandmother of Logan Lage, who authorities say is responsible for the death of an unborn baby, speaks out about how her grandson is being portrayed.

24-year-old Lage was arrested last week after allegedly leading state troopers on a high speed chase and crashing head on into the vehicle of 26-year-old Shea Lehnen, killing her unborn child.

Lage's grandmother tells 11 News her grandson has made plenty of mistakes in his life, but that he has been working to turn things around. She says he is a good person and that media descriptions of him have been unfair.

His grandmother says the day of the accident, Lage was on his way home from his job in Collbran to spend two weeks with his 5-year-old son. She believes he fled from authorities because he did not want to have to go to jail while his son was at home waiting for him.

Lage was driving without a liscence, which was revoked as part of his probation. His grandmother says he had done community service, attended required classes, and paid fees. She says he was ready to be off probation by March.

Now, she has to wait and find out what will happen to him.

"He made a terrible error in judgment," said Carol Frost, Lage's grandmother. "We, his family and friends, are all grieving with him for the loss that occurred."

The Mesa County Coroner's Office has not yet released a full report on the baby's death, but if the baby was born alive, Lage could face charges of vehicular homicide.

Lage remains in the Mesa County Jail on $500,000 bond, and will appear in court later this week.

Sounds like he violated his probation, drove without a license and in the course killed an unborn child. To me this is more then just "an error in judgment".
