Police ID Victims in Mall Shooting

Omaha, Neb. (AP) Police in Omaha, Nebraska say a teenage gunman who went on a shooting rampage in a department store may have smuggled an assault rifle into the mall underneath clothing.

Police Chief Thomas Warren said the young man “appeared to be concealing something balled up in a hooded sweat shirt'” he was carrying, according to a surveillance video.

Moments later, gunshots rang out over Christmas music in the Von Maur department store at Westroads Mall.

Authorities say 19-year-old Robert Hawkins killed six employees and two customers before shooting himself.

The customers have been identified as 48-year-old Gary Scharf of
Lincoln, Nebraska and 65-year-old John Mc Donald of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The employees were 36-year-old Angie Schuster, 24-year-old Maggie Webb, 66-year-old Janet Jorgensen, 53-year-old Diane Trent,
56-year-old Gary Joy, and 47-year-old Beverly Flynn, all of Omaha.
