A local Palisade woman has spent years collecting nutcrackers and now some are on display for the public to enjoy.
Cindy Willard began collecting nutcrackers in 1989 when she lived in Germany. She says there was a nutcracker factory close to her home there so it made it easy to begin a collection. She also heard a story in Germany about the nutcracker and how a man made them for his little boy to guard the door of the house while he was off at war. Willard thought the story and figure were magical.
With almost fifty nutcrackers, Willard gave four of her larger ones to the Packing Shed Restaurant in Palisade.
