Colorado Springs, Colo. (AP) Police say the gunman in two fatal religious shootings had been thrown out of an Arvada missionary training school, where one of the shootings took place.

Police identified the gunman as 24-year-old Matthew Murray who was home-schooled by his family and raised in what a friend said was a deeply religious Christian household.

Murray's father is a neurologist and a leading Multiple-Sclerosis researcher.

Five people, including Murray, were killed and five others wounded Sunday in the two eruptions of violence 12 hours and 65 miles apart.

The first attack took place at Youth With a Mission Training Center in Arvada. The other occurred at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs where Murray died after exchanging gunfire with a security guard.

Police say a weapon found at the church was forensically linked to shell casings left behind at the missionary school.
