Officials have identified the 27–year–old man killed in an avalanche as a Vail Ski Resort employee.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office say Jesse Brigham triggered an avalanche just before noon in the back country outside of the Vail Ski Resort boundaries.

Deputies say Brigham was skiing with two other people when the slide happened. The two other skiers were able to find Brigham because he was wearing an avalanche beacon and used their cell phones to call for help. The skiers performed CPR but told authorities that he was buried under six feet of snow for ten to 20 minutes.

The Eagle County Coroner's Office says Brigham suffocated to death.

This is the second avalanche related death of the season and the third avalanche reported in Colorado's high country just this week.
