The City of Grand Junction said KREX is grand-fathered in and can rebuild within one years time at the same location. The area is zoned R-4, which means it's a residential area. The KREX station was there before that zoning went into affect, so it's up to the station on if they do or do not rebuild there.
Neighbors have mixed feelings about the station rebuilding in the neighborhood and would like to be involved in decisions.
One neighbor would rather see them move to a commercial site where it would be more appropriate to have a TV station, but understands the station can do what it wants with its property.
Neighbors say if the station does decide to rebuild, they would like KREX to include them in decisions to make a happier environment for all.
