State Representative Bernie Buescher, (D) Grand Junction, says a new bill he is sponsoring will help thousands of small businesses across Colorado.

He says the current business personal property tax laws unfairly impose heavy taxes on small businesses in the state.

The new bill would increase tax exemptions for small businesses from $2500 to $7000. Buescher says that means 30,000 small businesses statewide wouldn't be required to file a tax return. This, he says, would allow them to keep and invest more money.

The bill has received support from Governor Ritter, and Rep. Buescher says he is optimistic that many Republicans will back it as well.

"I just can't imagine anyone would not understand that this is a really good bill," said Rep. Buescher.

The bill will be introduced on the house floor sometime this week.
