New Orleans (AP) John Edwards says that he's leaving the Democratic Presidential race.
Speaking in New Orleans, where he announced his bid more than a year ago, Edwards said, “it's time for me to step aside.”
Edwards says history must now “blaze its path” in a democratic race that is now left to Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama. He says he's spoken to both of them, and that they vowed to carry on the fight against poverty.
Edwards said, “with our convictions and a little backbone,” democrats will “take back the White House in November.”
