A man is in critical condition at St. Mary's Hospital after authorities say he was accidentally shot at a sporting goods store.
Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies were called to Jerry's Outdoor Sports off the I-70 Business Loop in Clifton Saturday morning, after they received reports that an employee of the store was suffering from a gun shot wound.
Authorities say a customer brought a 243 rifle into the store for examination, without realizing a bullet was loaded in the chamber. As the customer and one store employee were taking a look at the gun, it went off as another employee was walking by the counter. They say that employee was shot in the abdomen.
Deputies say the owner of the rifle will not face any charges. The shooting is still under investigation.
