Washington (AP) Three U.S. Senators whose helicopters made emergency landings today in the mountains of Afghanistan are all OK.

The choppers were forced to land because of a snowstorm. They carried Senators John Kerry, Joseph Biden and Chuck Hagel. A statement from Kerry’s office says nobody was hurt.

The senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and then left for Turkey.

According to the statement, the senators were evacuated from the landing site by U.S. troops. The statement says Kerry thanks the troops, who it says were “terrific as always.”

The lawmakers are on a trip that has included stops in India, Turkey and Pakistan. In Pakistan, they observed elections earlier this week.
