Washington (AP) Democrat Barack Obama says voters are “saddened when they see these kind of politics.”

Obama is referring to the flap over a photograph showing him dressed in traditional garments, including a turban, during a 2006 visit to Kenya.

The gossip and news web site the drudge report posted the photograph today and said it was being circulated by “Clinton staffers.'' That prompted the Obama campaign to charge its candidate was being smeared by the Clinton campaign.

In an interview with a San Antonio radio station (WOAI-AM), Obama says “the notion that the Clinton campaign would be trying to circulate this as a negative ... is sad.”

Obama also says “everybody knows ... That when you travel to other countries they ask you to try on traditional garb that you have been given as a gift.”
