Eight Wounded in South Los Angeles Street Shooting; Four Critically

Los Angeles (AP) Los Angeles authorities say a gunman opened fire on a crowd of children and adults at a south Los Angeles bus stop.

Eight people were wounded. Three girls, ages 10 to 12, and a woman are in critical condition.

The shooting happened just after school let out. A tire mechanic working nearby says he heard about 10 gunshots, probably from a handgun. He says a wounded little girl ran back to school while holding her arm.

It was the second major outburst of street violence in the city in a week.

Last Thursday, gang-related shootings carried out in broad daylight led to a gunbattle in which police killed one gunman and wounded another.
