If you're the owner of a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle, the government has a warning regarding your safety.
The oweners of more than four-and-a-half million of the vehicles should immediately take their cars and trucks into a dealership to have a faulty cruise control switch system disconnected.
The switch has been linked to engine fires.
About 9.6 Million vehicles have been recalled due to the defect, but only about 5 million have been fixed.
The recall includes 21 vehicle models built from 1992 to 2004.
The National Highway traffic Safety Administration has received about 60 complaints of engine fires in the recalled vehicles since last august.
Consumers with questions should contact their local Ford, Lincoln or Mercury dealer or call 888-222-2751.
Many dealers will perform the disconnection as a "drive through" service and without an appointment.
