Mesa County has launched an internal review to determine why at least 10 inmates were illegally incarcerated in its jail.
In at least one case one illegal immigrant was locked up for up to five months. District Judge David Bottger raised the issue amid concerns that inmates that were supposed to be released from jail while they waited to get into community corrections programs were instead jailed for “disciplinary proceedings.”
Bottger says the sentencing judge must be notified, and the incarceration of inmates must be reviewed for probable cause.
That didn't happen.
