Baghdad (AP) The U.S. military reports a combined U.S.-Iraqi operation in northern Iraq has killed nine suspected insurgents and captured eight others.

The raid targeted the terror group, Al-Qaida in Iraq.

A statement today says three Iraqi troops were killed but indicates there were no American casualties.

The raid last Sunday targeted a cell believed responsible for sssassinations and bomb attacks in Ninevah province. It netted rifles, ammunition, bomb-making materials, grenades, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a land mine.

The U.S. and Iraqi forces are on a push for control of the northern region, where insurgents are making a stand after being chased out of other parts of Iraq, including Baghdad.
