With the high price of fuel the Mesa County Sheriff's Office says it is seeing an increase of people filling up at the pump without paying, but now it's also seeing a different kind of fuel theft.
One driving instruction company has been taken for about 200 gallons of diesel fuel. The lead driving instructor says that the thefts have been happening consistently since last Thursday. Excel Driver Services has a fleet of five trucks, each holds anywhere from 200-300 gallons of fuel, costing 800-1200 dollars to fill them up.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating the incident and has stepped up patrol in the area where the thefts have occurred; you can also buy a lock for your gas tank.
