A dump truck driver's route took a turn for the worst, and now he is in the hospital.
Police say a coughing fit may have caused the driver to drive off Highway 50 in Whitewater, take out a highway sign, and destroy part of an irrigation pipe.
The truck finally stopped short of heading through a person's backyard. One neighbor says it was quite a wake–up call.
"It was just a loud crash. If you can imagine two train cars crashing together, it sounded like that.,” says Rich Phillips, a nearby resident.
The Mesa County Sheriff deputy on scene says the driver only had minor injuries.
