Santa Maria, Calif (AP) Police in Santa Maria, California, say a man who opened fire at a junk yard killed his father and three others before dropping the gun and trying to escape over a fence.
Lee Leeds is being held without bail.
Police say the 31-year-old Leeds had been involved in a dispute with one of the victims, but they don't have details because Leeds has refused to talk to detectives.
Investigators say the suspect fired 17 shots in all, sending panicked customers in the busy junk yard scrambling for safety. One officer calls it a “pretty chaotic situation.”
The dead include Leeds' 66-year-old father, who owned the business. Two other victims were employees. The fourth was a customer.
