Beijing (AP) China is demanding that Washington explain how electrical fuses for intercontinental ballistic missiles were mistakenly delivered to Taiwan.

In a statement posted Wednesday on web site of China's foreign ministry, a government spokesman expresses “strong displeasure” over the error. China is demanding the U.S. take steps to eliminate what it calls “the negative effects and disastrous consequences.”
It says american weapons sales to Taiwan should stop.

While the shipment did not include nuclear materials, the error is particularly sensitive because china vehemently opposes U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. Four of the cone-shaped fuses were shipped to taiwanese officials in fall 2006 instead of the helicopter batteries they had ordered. The U.S. says the fuses have been recovered and an investigation has been launched.
