Senator Ken Salazar says proposed federal cuts to medicare and medicaid could cost colorado hospitals 150 million dollars a year and put an end to preventive care for uninsured patients.
Salazar says Saint Mary’s Hospital could lose out on $151 Thousand because the proposal would cut $5 billion from the federal portion of the Medicaid program over the next five years.
Dan Prinster with Saint Mary’s Hospital says Medicaid does not adequately reimburse currently and that any cuts will have an impact on the hospital, but because the legislation is changing, Saint Mary’s can’ t quantify the impact.
