Mexico City (AP) One of two suspects in the killing of a University Of Colorado student who was vacationing in Mexico has escaped from jail.
A Puerto Vallarta police spokeswoman says a guard accidentally released 30-year-old Alfonso Ramirez Sastre Friday after he apparently swapped clothing with a cellmate.
She says Ramirez offered his cellmate about $5,000 to swap identities.
Ramirez and Daniel Vargas, also 30, were arrested in the Wednesday death of 21-year-old David Parrish. Embassy spokeswoman Judith Bryan says Parrish was shot when he resisted a robbery attempt.
Police says municipal authorities suspended a local public safety director in connection with the jail break.
Jailbreaks are relatively common in Mexico.
