Family Searching for Daughter

Megan Schmidt has been missing since Monday, March 31st. The Schmidt family says they are receiving little help from authorities.

Heather Benjamin with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office says there really is not much they can do. Benjamin says, "In 2006 we had just under 300 runaways and about 190 of those were individuals. So obviously that 110 difference is the kids running away multiple times." Benjamin adds, "We don't have the resources to go out plus it's not a crime so we just get them in the system and then we wait for them to either turn up at home or to come in contact with law enorcement."

But the Schmidt family says that is not enough. They say the sheriff's office have ignored their case. A tip has the family believing Megan could be in one of the many homeless communities around town.

The family has searched a few of the homeless "tent cities" but could not find Megan. They have also posted flyers all across the city.

Megan was last seen wearing blue jeans, black boots, and a black hoodie sweat shirt. If you have any information you are asked to contact authorities or the family directly at 254-8655.

Are you serious?? Its not a "crime?" There is a young girl, a baby, only 14 MISSING!Why would the authorities just think she ran away, dont they "know" what crazy scary things happen to people nowadays?? They need to put themselves into the families shoes and feel that kind of loss and pain and do Their jobs! I am absolutely shocked after listening to Heather's statemen, "wait for her to show up??" I hate to think of the possibilities, may god be with the family. This is shocking and unreal for this country.

This news get me upset I feel they take this like a joke if it was their children you know for real they will be on the case day and night. I feel if they wanted to find her they would. I remember the story of my friend in staten island who was missing in staten island in 1981 who name was Hollyann Hughes and they did not find the man until October 2004 I remember the story as it was yesterday I knew her because I live down couple of blocks from her house I useto go to the same story around her house. They still did not find her body so really the family is the one who hurting. i feel they do not care that why they acting that way. They need to do alot of changes on the system. These cops are full of s--t and they know it . as long it not their family or one of them they do not care or they just sit on their ass. I pray for our family hoping she is ok and will come home soon and safety. Just stay strong and do alot of praying. It is god's hand and let us pray he will bring her home.

Alot of kids I used to know there knew ppl in GJ. I am from Paonia. My mom works st the delta cty sheriff office. Maybe you can e-mail flyers Around, I can't imagine how you feel right now.
