Beijing (AP) China says it's uncovered a plot to kidnap people at next summer's Beijing olympics, including athletes and reporters.

A public security ministry spokesman says 35 people have been arrested in western china, identified as members of a terrorist gang.

Since the 9/11 terror attacks on the U.S., China has been portraying a separating rebellion in a western province as being fueled by outside terrorist organization. But diplomats are
skeptical, citing a lack of evidence.

In today's statement, the spokesman says police also confiscated nearly 22 pounds of explosives, eight sticks of dynamite and what he describes as “jihadist” literature.
