Buenos Aires, Argentina (AP) It's been relatively quiet in Argentina ahead of today's Olympic torch relay, but demonstrators are promising to be mobile once things get started.

The torch is to emerge this afternoon for a nearly three-hour crossing of streets.

Argentina is billing the relay as an easy-going street fiesta launched by a tango orchestra. But that hasn't stopped officials from mobilizing thousands of police after protesters warned they
would take action.

Olympic rowers are expected to glide with the torch on racing boats down a canal beside the capital waterfront. The flame also is to pass the presidential palace before finishing at an equestrian club.

Following the relay, the torch will be tucked aboard a Chinese jetliner and flown to Tanzania.

The torch was met by major demonstrations in San Francisco, London and Paris this week.
