Officials met Tuesday to try to figure out why a murder suspect was let out of jail instead of being placed on a parole hold.
Officials from the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, jail, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and Colorado Department of Corrections discussed the case of Lonnie Herrera in a closed door meeting.
Herrera's been charged in the murder of 23– year– old Anna Macias.
Herrera was on parole when he was arrested for allegedly beating Anna just two weeks before officials say he shot and killed her. He was able to bond out.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says if he had been listed in the system as a parolee, he might not have been released from jail.
Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey says he will release details of the meeting to the public Wednesday morning.
