Glenwood Springs, Colo. (AP) Two people are dead and two are hurt after a tipped-over trailer spilled 38-foot-long steel pipes onto interstate 70.

The accident happened about 8 p.m. Tuesday, west of the Hanging Lake tunnels in Glenwood Canyon.

The Colorado state patrol says a westbound freightliner tractor-trailer fell over as the driver was going around a right-hand curve on an elevated portion of I-70. That sent four of the huge pipes rolling down onto eastbound traffic below, where they struck a semi-truck, a Toyota Tacoma and a Subaru Legacy.

The driver of the eastbound semi and a passenger in the Toyota pickup were killed, but their names have not been released. The pickup driver, 29-year-old Jonathan Middlebrooks of Vancouver, Washington was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Authorities say 55-year-old Kenneth Muchiri of Houston was driving the truck that overturned, and sustained moderate injuries.

The Subaru driver, 33-year-old Randy Behr of Avon, was not hurt.
