A head–on crash on Interstate 70 sends one person to the hospital and ties up traffic.
The crash happened on I–70 half–way between Fruita and Grand Junction at around 11:30 Tuesday morning.
According to Colorado State Patrol, a woman driving a Honda tried to make an illegal u–turn into the westbound lanes using an emergency vehicle turn around. Officials say an oncoming semi was able to avoid her, but a Dodge Ram behind it didn't see her and slammed into her head–on.
A passenger in the truck was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Honda was cited for careless driving resulting in injuries.
Officials want to remind people that using an emergency vehicle turn around is illegal and dangerous.
One westbound lane of the highway was closed while crews cleaned up.
