Delta County's long running fight over building codes continued Wednesday at the Delta County Courthouse. Delta is one of only two counties in the state that has never adopted building codes, and there is an organized effort to see that it stays that way.
The board met for two hours reviewing comments made by citizens during a heated public meeting that took place on December 8th. The board indentified several items that will be issues for further deliberation. Citizens were concerned that outgoing Commissioner Ted Hayden would push the ordinance through before his term in office ends next week. That did not happen Wednesday and Hayden said he never intended to do so.
The Resource Association of Delta County will continue to fight the building code issue, but appreciates the board having an open ear. The building code will not be adopted next week or in the near future. No action will be taken until after January while a new commissioner is being trained.
