GJ Rural Fire District Works To Receive Missing Funds

Grand Junction Rural Fire Protection District board members met Tuesday night in executive session to discuss their options in the struggle to receive missing funds.

For nearly two hours, board members talked with their attorney about what they will do when their agreement with Espernet, the New York internet service provider formerly known as Envizion runs out in January.

Under the current agreement between Espernet and the Rural Fire District, the District received $25,000 in September and $20,000 in November and December.

According to the financial statement handed out at last night's confidential meeting, $550,000 and crude interest are still owed to the District. This comes to approximately $800,000

Rural Fire District President Steve Grant would not say whether the board will file a lawsuit against Espernet, but Grant did say they have not given up on negotiations. The board hopes to have a decision on their next step by February 1st.
