Colorado General Assembly Opens New Legislative Session

The Colorado General Assembly gathered for the first time in 2005 Wednesday and two Grand Junction politicians are beginning their service as Representatives.

Democrat Bernie Buescher and Republican Josh Penry of Grand Junction were both sworn in Wednesday morning in the Colorado Statehouse. They were then part of the first regular session of the 65th General Assembly.

Party leaders from both sides want to start dealing with spending problems with the state budget, so they held a joint session of the Legislature Wednesday afternoon.

Penry and Buescher say they are up to the challenge and excited to begin serving Mesa County in Denver.

This session of the General Assembly is scheduled to end May 11th.
