Ice Climber Injured During Ouray Ice Festival

An ice climber remained at St. Mary's hospital Sunday after falling at the Ouray Ice Park.

The ice park is hosting its annual ice festival this weekend. Organizer of the event, Aaron Eddie tells 11 News the woman climber fell from a gorge, dropping about one hundred feet onto her head. No personal information about the woman is being released at this time, but an officer with the Ouray police department says the climber was in critical condition when air lifted to the hospital Saturday.

Eddie believes the accident was the result of human error, and a lack of experience ice climbing. The climber was not participating in any of the scheduled ice festival events at the time of the fall.
