Rep. Penry Introduces Water Bill, Says It Has Wide Range Of Support

House District 55 Representative Josh Penry, (R), Grand Junction, says he has high hopes that a bill he introduced in the legislature Thursday will create a high–water mark in cooperation among thirsty Colorado water districts. House Bill 1177 would establish regional round tables that would search for cooperative solutions to looming water shortages in the state.

The committees could negotiate pacts and enter into legal agreements that would ensure that the water needs of rural and urban users are met. Penry says the bill has a wide range of support. Under the proposal the state would be divided into nine roundtables, representing the state's major water basins, and the north and south metro Denver areas.

A 25 member committee would oversee the process. He says it will be some time before the bill is voted on so all parties will have a chance to take a detailed look at the proposal.
