Four of the Seven Grand Junction City Council seats are open and Monday marked the deadline for those interested to submit nomination forms for the April 5th election. Seats in Districts A,D,E, and one at–large seat are open. Potential candidates must be at least 18–years–old, as well as be a registered voter in Grand Junction.
A nomination petition with at least 50 signatures of registered Grand Junction voters must also be submitted. Due to the possibility of errors or invalid signatures, City Clerk Stephanie Tuin says petitioners will have the opportunity to fix those mistakes.
The candidates for City Council include:
In District “A”-James Doody
In District “D”-incumbent Bill McCurry and Bonnie Beckstein
In District “E”-incumbent Harry Butler and Teresa Coons
At–Large Seat-Douglas Thomason, Kevin Derr, James Winterswolf, Christopher James
The city council spots will not be the only thing on the ballot for the general election being mailed to voters in February. A question concerning a cable television franchise will also be on the ballot.
