A series of traffic accidents at a Grand Junction intersection is forcing the city to build another roundabout, this one at 24 1/2 and G roads. In the last seven years there have been 19 injury accidents, including one traffic death at that intersection. This roundabout will have a larger diameter and wider lanes then the roundabout at 25 and G roads.
Construction of the new roundabout will begin in late February and is scheduled to be completed within three months. During that time the intersection will be closed for two months. Wednesday night the city held an open house for the public to view the plans and ask questions of officials.
The city received a $700,000 federal grant to help make this project a reality. The new roundabout is expected to be ready for traffic in May.
