Montrose Representative's Gun Show Bill Goes Down In Committee
For a third straight year, a Montrose State Representative is trying to change a law concerning background checks at gun shows. The House Judiciary Committee defeated Representative Ray Rose's bill 6-4, Thursday.
The bill would have loosened Amendment 22, which states background checks must be performed at gun shows for those not just making actual purchases, but also for those attempting to buy guns.
Rose said he doesn't want to end background checks, but rather do away with a section of the law that isn't followed. Amendment 22 was introduced in 2000 to prevent backdoor weapons sales.
