Three people, including two children, were taken to a local hospital in serious condition Friday afternoon after their car was hit broadside at a busy Mesa County intersection. Palisade resident Tamara Hyde was driving eastbound on H Road when a truck driven by Gerald O'dwyer ran the stop sign at the intersection.
The impact sent both vehicles spinning off through a fence and into a pasture. The impact was so severe rescuers had to pry the doors open on the car to get to the victims in it. One child in the car was in a car seat, while the other child and the driver were wearing seat belts. It was not known at the crash site the relationship of the children to Hyde.
O'dwyer was shaken up in the crash, but otherwise unhurt. Some residents in the area complained that one neighbor's overgrown fence hinders visibility at the intersection, but Trooper Ron Greasley said this intersection has not been troublesome in the past.
