A Grand Junction man is taken into custody on attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing his brother multiple times with a machete knife. At around 1:00 a.m. Sunday Grand Junction police officers responded to the area of Mesa Avenue and Poplar Drive for a report of a man covered in blood. 33–year–old William Jason Kovach and his 40 year old brother Kerry Kovach were involved in an altercation. Kerry allegedly grabbed a baseball bat and attacked William. William told police he defended himself by stabbing Kerry several times with a machete knife. Emergency personnel found Kerry conscious with a cut six inches long on his neck and wounds to his forehead and right hand. He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he was treated and released. William Kovach was uninjured and consequently taken to the Mesa County jail and booked on charges of attempted 2nd degree murder and 1st degree assault.
