Board Lays Out Plan For Mesa County School Construction

The Mesa County School District 51 Board is wasting little time using the bond money voters approved last November. The board has already selected plans for new schools, as well as making preliminary plans for school boundary adjustments.

The four new schools, which include Pear Park Elementary, Fruita Elementary, the Fruita 8th and 9th Grade School, and Bookcliff Middle School, will look familiar. The school board has decided to model the new schools after already existing schools in Grand Junction. The schools will follow the model of the Redlands Middle School and Rocky Mountain elementary.

The board will discuss a few possible changes to the models, like additional Kindergarten and Special Education space. They will also look at a preliminary plan showing the boundary adjustments.

10 of the 40 bond projects have progressed through the planning stages. The board hopes to have the four new schools in operation by the Fall of 2006.
