GJ City Council Approves Beer And Wine Tastings At Liquor Outlets

Wednesday night, the Grand Junction City Council adopted an ordinance by a vote of 5-2, that allows for wine and beer tasting at the city's 22 retail liquor outlets. At the meeting the city council was briefed on a law passed by the Colorado General Assembly last summer that would let individual cities decide if liquor stores could have tastings of beer, wine, and liquor.

The ordinance approved Wednesday approved beer and wine tastings, but not those for liquor, a point most liquor store owners and operators agree is a good idea. Council Members Jim Spehar and Harry Butler voted against the measure.

The ordinance will allow adults to have no more than four, one ounce samples of beer and wine. The tastings will be limited to three per week for each establishment annually, up to 104 days of the year.
