A municipal ordinance regulating cigarette smoking goes into effect in Grand Junction on January First, 2006, The city wants businesses to understand the requirements of that law. Representatives of the City Code Enforcement Division and the city clerk met with businesses Friday morning at City Hall to answer questions about the new law.
Many of the questions involved a part of the law defining how far away from an entrance people could stand and smoke, but the manager of a local bowling alley says there is still concern among some businesses about the fine points of the regulations.
But a code enforcement supervisor says the low turnout of less than a dozen businesses for the meeting shows information on the law is reaching business people.
Some are also concerned about how much responsibility business owners have in enforcing the regulations.
City administrators say people with questions about the ordinance should call 244–1593 for more information.
