The outpouring of aid from the grand valley continues in the wake of a devastating tsunami in Asia. For the past month the Grand Junction Rotary Club has been raising money to purchase shelter boxes. A larges plastic box filled with enough supplies to provide temporary housing for up to 10 people. The boxes cost about $900 each. They include a 10–person tent, water purifiers and containers, a small stove, and several other disaster essentials. Currently the club has been able to raise close to $9,000, enough to buy 9 kits. Past Grand Junction Rotary Club President Walid Bou Matar says tsunami aid the U.S. is providing is simply payback for all the world–wide support given to our country several years ago in the aftermath of 9-11.
