The Clifton woman being investigated for making up a story about having a husband killed fighting in Iraq may face federal felony charges. Sarah Kenney's story ended up being a hoax after the Grand Junction Free Press investigated her claim.
Sources out of Denver say to obtain a picture of an unidentified soldier she claimed was her husband, she used a false social security number. It was really that of a woman who died in the 1990's. An agent with the Office of Defense Criminal Investigative Services in Denver says misuse of a social security number is a federal felony.
The Mesa County District Attorney's office is pursuing if Kenney broke any state or local laws. Kenney's real husband is a manager at a Grand Valley fast food restaurant.
